Roboception Launches rc_reason Pack
New Software Module Enables Space-Efficient, Autonomous Packing
Roboception has expanded its rc_reason Software Suite with a new module: rc_reason Pack.
The rc_reason Pack software module provides an out-of-the-box perception solution for autonomous packing. It enables robotic pick-and-place applications that need to place previously picked objects inside a packing volume, such as a box, bin or onto a pallet.
Pack identifies stable placement poses for objects inside the packing volume: the software analyzes the current filling state of the volume and selects the lowest position that provides stable support for the object. This maximizes the remaining space and keeps as many packing options as possible available for the next object to be placed.
In addition, the module offers a dedicated page on the rc_cube Web GUI for easy setup, configuration, testing and application tuning; the definition of a region of interest to specify the relevant packing volume or restrict the search area for the load carrier; and a load carrier detection functionality to place objects inside a detected load carrier only. A configurable starting point controls where packing begins, and the Web GUI provides a 3D visualization of the packing volume and the computed place pose. Pack works with both static and robot-mounted sensors, and supports optional integration with the hand-eye calibration module to provide place poses in a user-configured external reference frame.
Applications for Pack can be found across production and logistics: Wherever picked objects need to be placed space-efficiently into boxes, bins or onto pallets.
