Dr. Heiko Hirschmueller started his education in 1996, when he earned his diploma in information technology from the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim. After that, he pursued his M.Sc. in Human Computer Systems at De Montfort University Leicester, UK, where he graduated with distinction in 1997-1998.
Following his academic achievements, Dr. Hirschmueller worked as a software engineer at Siemens AG Mannheim from 1997 to 2000. During this period, he gained invaluable experience in software development and honed his skills in this field. In pursuit of further academic excellence, Dr. Hirschmueller returned to De Montfort University Leicester, UK, to earn his Ph.D. in real-time stereo vision between 2000 and 2003. This marked a significant milestone in his academic career and set him on a path to specialize in computer vision research.
After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Hirschmueller spent a significant part of his career as a computer vision researcher at the Department of Perception and Cognition, Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics, German Aerospace Center (DLR) from 2003 to 2015. During this period, he conducted cutting-edge research and made significant contributions to the field of computer vision. In 2009, he was also tasked with the coordination of the mobile robotics group at DLR.
Dr. Hirschmueller’s dedication and contribution to his field did not go unnoticed, and he was awarded the DLR Wissenschaftspreis in 2009 and the Carl Pulfrich Award in 2011. His exceptional work also earned him an Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing in 2018.
In 2015, Dr. Hirschmueller co-founded Roboception and since has worked there as Product Owner and software engineer.
